Personality & Traits
| General Overview | Korel Tevek is a 47-year-old Cardassian officer. His career has taken him from desperate combat during the Battle of Cardassia, through border patrol duty, a posting as liaison to the Cardassian Embassy on Bajor, and over a decade in the Cardassian Intelligence Bureau. Each assignment shaped his fundamental belief that the Federation, whether through naivety or manipulation, represents a sophisticated threat to Cardassian independence through cultural and economic absorption rather than military conquest. He is a loyal son of Cardassia who believes his people must rebuild through self-reliance rather than becoming a Federation client state. His intelligence work focused not on field operations but on systematic analysis of Federation decision-making patterns and influence operations. His most significant—and controversial—work involved profiling key Federation officials who shaped policy toward Cardassia and documenting personal relationships between these figures and Detapa Council members. His analysis demonstrated that personal rapport and shared diplomatic experiences were making Cardassian leaders internalize Federation perspectives and advocate for them sincerely. This created severe friction with Council members who viewed his reports as personal attacks, ultimately leading to his assignment to Empok Nor—a prestigious but conveniently distant posting that acknowledged his competence while limiting his domestic political impact. He views his current role as both political necessity and strategic opportunity: a chance to understand Federation operations from within while protecting Cardassian sovereignty. |
|
| Strengths & Weaknesses | STRENGTHS Strategic analytical mind honed by two decades of intelligence work Multi-domain expertise from varied career (combat, border patrol, diplomatic liaison, intelligence) Unwavering commitment to Cardassian sovereignty and independence WEAKNESSES Perpetual suspicion makes every interaction an analysis exercise, potentially blinding him to genuine cooperation Emotional distance prevents deeper understanding and trust-building with colleagues Rigidity—strong convictions can make him inflexible when circumstances might benefit from adaptation |
|
| Ambitions | Preserve Cardassian sovereignty—ensure that Cardassia rebuilds as a truly independent power rather than becoming a Federation protectorate, honoring the 800 million who died so their sacrifice leads to genuine freedom; Apply lessons learned from observing how Bajor maintained independence to help Cardassia resist assimilation Work toward a future where Cardassia's economic, military, and cultural institutions are strong enough to stand independently of Federation support structures |
| Personal History | Korel Tevek was born in 2352 on Cardassia Prime to Procal Tevek, a gul in the Cardassian Defense Force, and Yadera Tevek, who would later become an archivist. Raised in a military household alongside his younger brother Mevek, Korel absorbed his father's strong sense of duty to Cardassia from an early age. He enrolled in the Cardassian Military Academy at age 18 in 2370, just as the Dominion War began. His first assignment was on an orbital defense platforms until 2374, when he was transferred to an Planetary Infantry Regiment within the 4th Order. The following year Battle of Cardassia occurred in 2375. Tevek was stationed as a part of planteary defense when the Dominion turned against their Cardassian “allies”. He fought in the capital's industrial district as part of a hastily-formed militia unit. He witnessed the systematic slaughter of countless Cardassians as Dominion forces bombarded civilian sectors—killing his father Procal. The shrapnel wounds he sustained still mark his neck ridges, scars he has never had corrected. The post-war years took Tevek through various assignments that shaped his worldview. Border patrol duty along the Cardassian-Federation borders from 2376 to 2383 exposed him to what he perceived as Federation "humanitarian missions" that conveniently gathered intelligence. His posting to the Cardassian Embassy on Bajor from 2383 to 2387 proved particularly formative. He brought young Reskal with him, and while she developed a fascination with xenobiology by observing Bajoran ecosystems, he studied how Bajor maintained independence despite enormous Federation pressure—lessons he would carry forward. His recruitment into the Cardassian Intelligence Bureau in 2387 came after a senior analyst read his detailed Bajor reports about Federation advisory patterns. After four years as a field intelligence officer monitoring internal security and foreign intelligence activities in rebuilding sectors, he was promoted in 2391 to counterintelligence analyst focusing on Federation operations. His 2395 promotion to senior strategic analyst at the Central Intelligence Directorate allowed him to pursue his defining work: identifying which Federation figures actually shaped policy toward Cardassia and how they influenced Cardassian decision-making. His most controversial work documented personal relationships between Federation officials and Detapa Council members. He demonstrated that personal rapport and shared diplomatic experiences were making Cardassian leaders internalize Federation perspectives and advocate for them sincerely. This created severe friction with the Detapa Council. When summoned to brief the full Council, he presented network maps and correlation analysis that made officials uncomfortable. While his analysis was acknowledged as technically sound, it became politically radioactive. Council members who felt targeted blocked his advancement within the Bureau. When the opportunity arose to assign him as Executive Officer to Empok Nor—prestigious but conveniently distant from Cardassia Prime—both the Bureau and Council found it acceptable. Tevek recognized it for what it was: acknowledgment of his competence combined with desire to limit his domestic political impact. |
